Project in Brief
Lawn & Turf NZ partnered with Schick Civil Construction to deliver hydroseeding, erosion control and dust suppression solutions across multiple stages of the Te Awa Lakes development in Horotiu.
The project involved establishing vegetation on road berms, residential lots, steep embankments and active construction areas. By tailoring seed blends and hydro mulching products to the specific conditions of each area, the team was able to achieve rapid establishment, minimise erosion risks and improve overall site stability throughout the construction programme.
Key Steps
Site Assessment & Product Selection
Each area of the development was assessed to determine the most suitable hydro mulching and seed blend solution based on slope, visibility, erosion risk and intended use.
Stage 1 Installation
- 4,200m² of road berms were hydro mulched using Amenity Perennial Ryegrass.
- 750m² of steep banks treated with a Hydro 1000 and Flexterra® blend with Rye/Clover seed mix.
- 2,320m² of open lots hydro mulched with a Hydro 1000 and Rye/Clover mix.
- 10,000m² treated with Dust RX Hydro for temporary dust suppression and ground stabilisation.
Stage 2 Installation
- 650m² of additional road berms were hydro mulched with Amenity Ryegrass.
- 1,500m² of steep batters treated using a Hydro 1000 and Flexterra® blend with Rye/Clover seed mix for ongoing erosion protection and vegetation establishment.
Establishment & Stabilisation
The combination of seed selection, moisture retention and erosion control products helped support successful germination and reduce the risk of washouts across the site.
Team Triumph
The success of the Te Awa Lakes project came down to selecting the right solution for each environment rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach. By combining premium hydro mulching products with proven seed blends, Lawn & Turf NZ delivered effective erosion control, rapid vegetation establishment and improved long-term stability across more than 19,000m² of treated land.
The result was a well-established landscape that supported both ongoing construction activities and the future vision for the Te Awa Lakes development.
What's Next?
As Te Awa Lakes continues to grow, the established vegetation will provide long-term ground stability, erosion protection and visual appeal throughout the development.
Lawn & Turf NZ remains proud to support major civil and infrastructure projects with tailored hydroseeding and erosion control solutions that deliver lasting results.
